The Alliance for Business and Community
History
It was through lengthy negotiations and meetings that the management leadership of the three largest ethnic chambers, the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce and the Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce, learned that each chamber had basically some of the same issues and concerns trying to provide member services to their own membership.
As time went by, founding members began to trust and identify with each other's business needs, goals and the visions that each respective chamber had adopted. They soon realized that there were many commonalities and similar interests and objectives that each shared. Each of the chambers may have been different in size, structure and availability of resources, but as a business association they shares some of the same core values and goals of any chamber.
All of the three chamber representatives agreed to meet on a regular basis to share information, avoid scheduling conflicts and collaborate where there was mutual benefits for all three organizations. Covering some of the many events and activities throughout the region was shared and individual members reported on the outcomes or issues that involved our communities and membership.
In mid 2001, it was proposed that the founding members consider forming a formal organization that could be recognized throughout the community. This relationship would be a powerful tool for its collective membership and resources could be combined when dealing with common issues and concerns. It was also advantageous to join forces in providing services as a trio rather than as individual community organizations. Most of the clients of the Alliance liked the idea of a three for one concept when trying to strengthen their exposure to the community and market in the region.
It was thought that the formation of The Alliance for Business and Community would gain identity and reflect the diversity of the business community in a more powerful manner. Being recognized as a viable organization in a short period of time has been its testimony for success. Each board of the chambers wholeheartedly approved of the concept. It become clear that the board members, who reflect a cross section of the business community agreed with the creation of this alliance of business organizations.
